Doesn’t most of the world’s waste and deforestation
come from paper consumption?

Electronic video newspapers and magazines
only a short matter of time..

Thoughts?

Here are some fast facts on paper waste, though I do not know how accurate it is: http://www.metro-region.org/article.cfm?articleid=5574

Apparently in 2003, “paper and paperboard accounted for 35 percent of the total materials discarded in the United States.”

Animations and video on your newspaper?

You see futurist ideas and concepts like this from movies and books like Minority Report and Children Of Men. Finally, the future is here from the good people from Sony. It will be a refreshing change knowing that you will have a lightweight portable screen of any size that you will be able to view online material on.

The first inkling of change from print to the electronic format comes from the New York Times and their New York Times Reader http://firstlook.nytimes.com/index.php?cat=4 They have made a concerted effort to create a pc program that shares the same look of the actual newspaper. I can see many print companies eventually going this way.

Some visions of the future: http://dir.salon.com/story/ent/movies/int/2002/07/10/underkoffler_belker/index.html Futurist Thinking article from Salon.com http://www.foreignoffice.com/ Take a look at Children Of Men link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5u3axLhMqE An example of USA Today in Minority Report. Currently, I get most of my day to day information from the internet, but I still love print. There is a bit of comfort knowing you have something tangible in your hands. The act of flipping the page, the smell of the print and glue and the texture of the paper has a warmth to it that the computer will never give you. I have to say that having paper material, be it a book, newspaper or magazine is becoming quite a luxury for me now more than in the past.
